Revenue Model
How a digital property earns, or could earn, its money. Lead generation, affiliate commissions, display advertising, or selling something directly.
A revenue model describes how a digital property turns visitors or audience attention into money. The common ones are lead generation, where enquiries are sold or referred to a service business; affiliate commissions, where a purchase elsewhere pays a referral fee; display advertising; selling an email list audience something; and selling a product or service directly.
A pre-revenue property is judged on how credible and reachable its revenue model is, exactly as an earning property is judged on how durable its existing income is. See the pre-revenue advantage for why that distinction is worth money to a buyer.
